How does Bitpanda work? Answers on accounts, fees, withdrawals, security and regulation

Bitpanda works in four steps: create a free account, verify your identity, deposit euros and place an order from EUR 1.00; the answers below cover what it costs, how withdrawals work, who regulates each company and where to get help, with a link to the full page for each topic.

Crypto-assets are highly volatile. You could sustain a loss of some or all of your investment, so it is important to invest only what you can afford to lose. Read the risk disclosure

Getting started

How does Bitpanda work?

Bitpanda works as a broker, in four steps: you create a free account, verify your identity with one of Bitpanda's verification partners, deposit money and place an order from EUR 1.00. You buy from Bitpanda and sell to Bitpanda at a quoted price, not from another user. Each step is explained in how to buy Bitcoin on Bitpanda.

Who can open a Bitpanda account?

Residents of the EU and EEA can open an account on this website: Bitpanda GmbH provides crypto-asset services in all 30 EEA states. Residents of the United Kingdom and the UAE are served by other Bitpanda companies. You must pass an identity check, and the minimum age and accepted documents are shown during registration. To start, download the official app.

How do I verify my identity?

You verify your identity online with one of Bitpanda's verification partners; it is the second of the four onboarding steps. Have a valid identity document ready and follow the steps on screen. The published deposit and withdrawal limits apply to a verified account. Bitpanda support never asks for your password, seed phrase or two-factor codes, during verification or at any other time.

Fees and prices

What does it cost to buy crypto on Bitpanda?

A broker order costs a trade fee of 0.99% per transaction for Bitcoin and stablecoins and 1.49% for most other crypto. A few listed coins cost more. On Fusion the fee starts at 0.25% and falls as your 30-day volume grows. The minimum amount to buy or sell is EUR 1.00. Every figure, with its source and review date, is in the full fee schedule and limits.

Are there account or custody fees?

No. Bitpanda accounts and wallets are free of charge, and there is no fee for storing crypto assets. Fiat wallets are available in EUR, USD, GBP, CHF and PLN. Costs arise when you trade: stocks and ETFs, for example, cost a flat €1 per trade. Third-party fees, currency conversion costs and taxes can still apply.

Why is the price I see different from an exchange price?

Because Bitpanda is a broker, not an exchange. Bitpanda quotes you a price and fills your order itself, so the quote can include a spread on top of the trade fee. An exchange shows the price at which its users last traded with each other. When you compare providers, compare the total cost, fee plus spread. The guide to crypto broker vs exchange explains both models.

Deposits and withdrawals

How can I deposit euros?

You can deposit euros by SEPA bank transfer, by credit card or through an online payment service; Bitpanda names PayPal and Apple Pay among them. Bitpanda's home page describes deposits as fee-free, though your bank or card issuer can still charge. Each method has its own limit, given in the next answer.

What are the deposit and withdrawal limits?

For a verified account, the daily deposit limits are EUR 10,000,000 by SEPA bank transfer, EUR 20,000 by credit card and EUR 10,000 by online payment; card and online-payment deposits are also capped at EUR 300,000 per month. Withdrawals are limited to EUR 5,000,000 per day by SEPA and to EUR 100,000 per day and EUR 2,000,000 per month by online payment. The limits table on the fees page shows them side by side.

How long does a withdrawal take?

It depends on what you withdraw. For Bitcoin, Bitpanda says waiting times of up to several hours are not uncommon and can be longer when the network is busy. Euro withdrawals go by SEPA transfer or to your online payment account, and the time depends on the method and the receiving bank. If a withdrawal looks stuck, contact Bitpanda support with the transaction details.

Can I send crypto to my own wallet?

Yes. You can withdraw crypto from Bitpanda to a wallet address you control. A withdrawal fee applies per asset and network, and Bitpanda adjusts it to network traffic, so check the amount shown before you confirm. Blockchain transfers cannot be reversed: check the address and the network first. Until you withdraw, Bitpanda GmbH holds the assets in custody, as described under custody and account security.

Security

Is Bitpanda safe to use?

Bitpanda is supervised and publishes its security measures, but nothing removes market risk. Bitpanda GmbH is authorised as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCAR by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), under commercial register number 569240v. It states that it holds ISO 27001 certification and a SOC 2 Type 2 report, and that crypto is kept in cold storage examined by an external auditor. Crypto-assets are not bank deposits. The evidence for each point is on the Bitpanda security page.

How do I recognise a fake Bitpanda message?

Treat any message that asks for your password, seed phrase, recovery codes or two-factor codes as fake: Bitpanda support never asks for them and does not message you first. Activate the anti-phishing code under Password & Security, and reach support only through the app or the help centre at support.bitpanda.com. If you have already shared details, change your password and contact support at once.

What if I lose access to my account?

Start with a password reset: Bitpanda verifies every reset by e-mail and applies an account freeze as part of the process. If you no longer have your two-factor device or your e-mail address, contact support through the help centre and expect to prove your identity again. Nobody from Bitpanda will ask for your password while helping you.

Regulation

Is Bitpanda regulated?

Yes. Bitpanda GmbH is authorised as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCAR by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), under commercial register number 569240v; the ESMA register gives 9 April 2025 as the authorisation date. You can check the entry in the FMA company database. Other group companies hold their own authorisations, listed under licences and regulators. Authorisation does not protect you against a fall in prices.

Which Bitpanda company holds my assets?

It depends on the product. Crypto-assets are held by Bitpanda GmbH, Vienna, which is authorised under MiCAR by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), under commercial register number 569240v; custody is one of its services in the ESMA interim MiCA register. Stocks and ETFs come from Bitpanda Financial Services GmbH, e-money services from Bitpanda Payments GmbH and precious metals from Bitpanda Metals GmbH. The page about Bitpanda lists every company.

Is Bitpanda an exchange?

No. Bitpanda is a broker: it is your only contractual counterparty and fills your orders itself, on the broker and on Fusion. Bitpanda states that it does not operate a multilateral trading system, and the ESMA register entry for Bitpanda GmbH (competent authority: the Austrian FMA; commercial register number 569240v) does not list the operation of a trading platform. The guide to MiCA-licensed crypto exchanges shows how to read a register entry.

Staking and Fusion

How does staking on Bitpanda work?

You choose a supported coin and an amount, and rewards are distributed every Tuesday in the same asset, for each full day it was staked. Bitpanda keeps a commission of 20% of the staking APY, as of , deducted before distribution. Rewards are variable and not guaranteed, and you can unstake at any time unless the network imposes an unbonding period, as with ETH. More on staking rewards, commission and risks.

What is Bitpanda Fusion?

Bitpanda Fusion is Bitpanda's advanced trading platform. It offers limit, market, stop limit and stop market orders, with fees from 0.25% at Level 1 down to 0.02% at Level 7, depending on your 30-day volume. It is not an exchange: Bitpanda fills every order itself, at prices aggregated from 12+ venues as of July 2026. Fusion is fully available in the iOS and Android apps. See Bitpanda Fusion fees and order types.

Taxes and statements

Does Bitpanda provide a tax report?

Bitpanda's site confirms automated tax handling only for stock products, and names Germany and Austria for it. Whether your account offers a tax report for crypto trades in your country is something to check in the app or with support before you rely on it. Keep your own record of every order, with date, amount, price and fee, in case your tax authority asks for it.

Do I pay tax on crypto gains?

That depends on the country where you are resident for tax purposes. The rules on gains from selling or swapping crypto and on staking rewards differ from one country to the next, and so do rates, allowances and holding periods, so this page states none. Check the website of your national tax authority or ask a qualified tax adviser before you sell. Nothing on this page is tax advice.
