Looking for a crypto exchange in Europe? How Bitpanda differs

Bitpanda is a broker, not an exchange: you buy from and sell to Bitpanda at a quoted price.

On Fusion, prices are aggregated from 12+ venues and Bitpanda fills your order itself, as principal and as your only contractual counterparty. Bitpanda states that it does not operate a multilateral trading system, and the ESMA register does not list the operation of a trading platform (service b) for Bitpanda GmbH.

If you searched for a crypto exchange in Europe, the practical difference is who you trade with and how the price is set. The guide to crypto broker vs exchange: costs and custody compares both models, and the Fusion page covers Fusion fee tiers and order types.

How your assets are protected

  1. Certification and assurance report

Bitpanda states that it holds ISO 27001 certification and has attained a SOC 2 Type 2 report.

  2. Cold storage, examined from outside

According to Bitpanda, crypto assets are kept in cold storage facilities that are examined by an external auditor.

  3. Account protections you switch on

Optional TOTP two-factor authentication, an anti-phishing code and session management are in your security settings.

What is not covered

Crypto holdings are not bank deposits. Read the risk disclosure for crypto-assets before you invest.

The security page shows the evidence behind each point: how Bitpanda stores and protects assets.

Beyond crypto: stocks, ETFs and metals

Stocks and ETFs. You can buy fractional shares for a flat fee of €1 per trade. They are provided by Bitpanda Financial Services GmbH, an investment services provider licensed in Austria by the FMA (commercial register number 551181k).

Precious metals. Gold, silver, platinum and palladium are physically backed and stored in Switzerland. They are provided by Bitpanda Metals GmbH, a separate group company.
